OUR CONCERNS:

  • Contrary to the vision of Saugerties Comprehensive Plan for residential areas.
  • Air quality changes because of dust generated by quarry machinery and trucks in an already sensitive Mid-Hudson air quality area.
  • Noise created by blasting, stone crushing, truck traffic and echo properties of the surrounding hills.
  • Degradation of water table and aquifier disturbances to surrounding homes and businesses by blasting and removing the stone.
  • Wetland and stream degradation.
  • Irreparable damage to the community because of truck traffic during business and school bus periods.
  • Possible long term environmental affect on wildlife and wildlife migrations.
  • Will negatively impact long-term property values.

PROPOSAL SPECIFICS

  • 2.8 MILLION yards of stone are to be excavated over a 28 year period

  • The projected truck traffic will be 18- 100 truck trips per day.

  • Quarry equipment will include blasting equipment, stone crushers, loaders, trucks and scales etc.

  • Creation of a hole over 140 feet below existing grade. This hole will go beneath the water table spoiling over 136,000 gallons of water a day.
