Subject: proposed Shott Rock Inc. aggregate mine in Saugerties
Reference: Letter from Kenneth G.Gelting to you
dd July 16, 2002, same subject

Dear Mr. Visconti,

From the CARES website I learned that Kenneth G. Gelting, the project engineer from Earth Tech Inc. representing Shott Rock Inc., submitted to the New York State Department of Transportation a letter conceding that they cannot make the site distance required at the proposed truck exit at the intersection of Morse Rd. and Route 212 in Saugerties. Instead they propose to put a yellow " Trucks Entering" sign to solve that problem.

This cosmetic solutions of a problem constituting a real safety hazard is unacceptable to my wife and me. We travel Route 212 frequently in both directions. Already the current situations makes it dangerous to turn left into the parking area of the Veteran Pork store. Trucks driving in and around the intersection will only increase the dangerous situation there. Adding some yellow warning signs does not contribute to the solution of these hazards.

There is also talk about an alternative truck entrance via Hommelville Rd. and Lodge Rd. The intersection of these two roads is even more dangerous and very difficult to navigate in inclement weather because of its very steep slopes. The intersection of Hommelvile Rd. with Route 32 will certainly fail section 4.2.4.1. not to mention the severe and sometimes deadly accidents that have already taken place there.

Regards, Max Vrugt
